Public invited to welcome veterans back at the end of the day
Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight will be conducting its 12th Honor Flight on May 7.
There will be 145 veterans on this flight. This number includes seven World War Two veterans, 64 Korean War veterans, and 74 Vietnam War veterans. These veterans will be visiting their memorials in Washington, D. C.
(All of the participating veterans have been notified. Veterans who have applied but are not on this flight need not reapply as their application forms will be kept on file for future flights.)
They will leave from the Fort Dodge Regional Airport on Saturday, May 7, at 6:20 am and fly into Dulles International Airport and then take motor coaches to the memorials. Weather permitting, they will have a motorcycle escort to those memorials. After a visit to the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Lincoln memorials, a brief tour of downtown D.C. will follow.
The veterans will then be taken to the World War Two memorial and then to Arlington National Cemetery to witness the Changing of the Guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The final stop will be the Iwo Jima monument before boarding the plane for the trip back to Fort Dodge. The group will arrive back in Fort Dodge at approximately 10:40 pm. The public is invited to welcome these heroes home.
An informational meeting is planned for April 27 at the Webster County Agricultural Center. Veterans from approximately 20 surrounding Iowa counties will be on this trip.
